MOA’S 2022 PERFORMANCE INDICATORS # 1 OF 30

Teh Town Farm with ready to harvest riceThe year 2022 under review was a high-performing period for the Ministry of Agriculture with more focus placed directly on impacting rural and urban farmers and those in the agricultural value chains. Over the next 15 days, the MOA will release its 30 impact and success stories for the year 2022.

Starting with..AFTER 40 YEARS, FIRST GOVERNMENT’S FARM ACTIVATED IN GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY WITH RICE PLANTING AND HARVEST

In fulfilment of the mandate by His Excellency, President George Manneh Weah for the reactivation of Government’s farms across the country, the Ministry of Agriculture has activated in a Government’s Farm in Teh Town, Grand Cape Mount County after 40 years dormancy.

Since July 2022, the MOA, through its field technicians, activated the farm with rice planting covering 25 hectares. Residents of surrounding villages and towns have been harvesting the rice which will be used for seeds in the 2023 planting season. This is meant to support them grow more rice.  The farmland is located 65 km southwest from Monrovia and precisely 4 km off the Ibrahim Babangida Highway along the dirt road towards Robertsport – the main town in Grand Cape Mount. Residents in Teh said President William Tolbert established the farm in the 1970s which had rice and other food crops grown on it up to 1981.
