President Weah suspends tariffs on agriculture implements and equipment

Monrovia, September 29, 2020): - His Excellency, President George Manneh Weah, Sr. has issued Executive Order # 102 on September 25 suspending tariffs on several needed agriculture implements, inputs and equipment for a one- year period.

The Executive Order, which is an extension of Executive Order #97 issued in 2019 and elapsed this year, is required to boost food production in conformity with the Liberian Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity (PAPD) that prioritizes agriculture development.

President Weah, in the Order, directs “The Minister of Finance and Development Planning in consultation with the Minister of Agriculture and Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority, shall establish the processes and produce by administrative regulation for the granting of tax exemption to eligible beneficiaries within the agricultural sector”.

Agriculture Minister, Jeanine Milly Cooper, lauded President Weah for issuing the Order and described it as an excellent legal instrument that will help capacitate Liberian farmers to purchase farming implements and equipment at low cost.

Fertilizers, agrochemical, seeds, tractors of all types, seeds, animal breeding products, poultry incubators and food processing equipment are among 42 agriculture products and machinery mentioned in the Order.
