Ministry of Agriculture Donates Vehicles and Motorbikes to Boost Agricultural Research and Seed Development

Monrovia, Liberia – July 17, 2025 – The Ministry of Agriculture, through its SADFONS Project with support from the African Development Bank, has donated two new vehicles and nine motorbikes to the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) and the Seed Development and Certification Agency (SDCA).
Presenting the donation, Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah described the two institutions as “critical partners,” stating: “There is no way we will succeed in agriculture when the research center is not strong,” said Dr. Nuetah. “I must admit that I am proud of CARI. Even with limited resources, you continue to make strides in the sector’s growth—and the same goes for the Seed Agency.”
Dr. Nuetah also announced a major change in the government’s seed policy: “I am proud to announce that by next year, the Seed Development and Certification Agency will be supplying seeds to farmers. There will be no need to import seeds. We have identified dedicated farmers, and our duty is to support them through the right institutions. We also reaffirm that all vendors supplying seeds to the Ministry of Agriculture must be certified.”
CARI Administrator, Madam Habibatu Toure Kromah, expressed deep appreciation, noting that the support addresses one of the institute’s longstanding logistical challenges:
“We received a vehicle and nine motorbikes. Mobility has been a major challenge. This support will help us meet our 100-metric-ton seed rice target set by the African Development Bank.”
SDCA Director-General, Mr. Johnson A. Momo, emphasized the significance of the donation in revitalizing the agency, which had been inactive for several years.
“The agency has been dormant since the war, but under this administration, we have become operational again. This vehicle will enable us to travel through all 15 counties to oversee and control seed-related activities, particularly to prevent the influx of illegal seed sellers
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to food and nutrition security through institutional support and urged continued collaboration across the agriculture sector
